9 hours until step off

I was just putting the locks on my suitcases all ready to head off around 3am to get to the airport and I noticed I was shaking.

This is finally getting real.

Less than 24 hours until H-Hour D-Day

I still can't quite believe this is happening.

Tour shirts ahoy

Because we're massive nerds, Des (Purrdence) and I got T-shirts made for the trip.  On the back is our tour itinerary, like a band t-shirt.

The fronts differ slightly because we wanted different designs.  They were put together by our awesome friend Lindsay in Ontario (who is also a huge Band of Brothers fan), and are based on the Band of Brothers title card.

Desiree's shirt features our beloved Easy Company paratroopers.

For my shirt I wanted things that represented what we did on the trip.  So I have an art deco skyscraper (pretty buildings), a ferris wheel and rollercoaster (theme parks), an eagle (birdwatching), a paratrooper, a train and swing dancers!

Faraway places
With strange soundin' names
Faraway over the sea
Those faraway places
With the strange soundin' names
Are callin', callin' me

Goin' to China
Or maybe Siam
I want to see for myself
Those faraway places
I've been readin' about
In a book that I took from a shelf

I start getting restless
Whenever I hear
The whistle of a train
I pray for the day
I can get underway
And look for those castles in Spain

They call me a dreamer
Well, maybe I am
But I know that I'm burnin' to see
Those faraway places
With the strange soundin' names
Callin', callin' me...

Overview

It's been in planning for about 6 months and now it's less than a month away and I am frankly freaking out a little.

purrdence gets her long service leave this year.  And she asked me if I wanted to come along on an oddesey with her, mostly inspired by the campaign of Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne, but also hinging around DragonCon Atlanta and a good helping of Steve and Bucky shenanigans.  Running on savings from my previous job, I said yes.

My goal is to update this blog every few days at least.  Hopefully I can keep up.  Some posts will probably be better thought out than others.

So I guess we'll start with the itinerary.
